The Forgotten News Desk marked Filament’s return to working in-school with children, educators and parents after the two-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The project provided an opportunity to reconnect with schools and saw us returning to Dee Point Primary School in Blacon, who we had been working with when the pandemic struck, and two new partner schools; Broken Cross Primary & Nursery Academy and Peover Superior Primary School.
For us, the Forgotten News Desk was a chance to get back to our creative roots as producers of live immersive theatre adventures for children. For the schools, and the children and communities they serve, the project was a chance to celebrate being back together, to enjoy a positive shared experience and to utilise a creative stimulus as a tool to support the children’s learning post-pandemic. Most importantly, the Forgotten News Desk provided a valuable opportunity for children to experience the magic and wonder of a live performance again.
The Forgotten New Desk was delivered to three primary schools and two libraries in Cheshire during Spring 2022. Each primary school created their own newspapers - The Blacon Oracle, The Peover Eye and The Broken Cross Bugle. Use the links below to read or listen to the children’s newspapers.
The Forgotten News Desk was supported by Arts Council England, Cheshire Community Foundation, Cheshire East Council and the Ragdoll Foundation.
